The Happy Hour Book Club, whose members include several of our Auxiliary members, held its latest meeting at our post on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. They reviewed the historical fiction novel The Women by American author Kristin Hannah. The book tells the story of Frances "Frankie" McGrath, a young nurse who served in the United States Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War. The novel debuted at number one on The New York Times fiction best-seller list.

Army Veteran Lee Kerrigan attended the club meeting at the invitation of the members. First Lieutenant Kerrigan, whose service included a tour of duty from 1968 to 1969, was stationed in Saigon, serving in the Nurse Corps at a hospital facility there. She related several of her experiences occurring while she served. Lee is also the recipient of the Bronze Star. She met her best friend while stationed there, and they remained close until her passing recently. She is presently residing in Williamstown, NJ.

Squadron member Norm Gunn shared some very thought-provoking statistics on the nurses serving then.
