The Longest Yarn is being displayed at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum through August! Bring all your friends and family to check out this fantastic display! This display (thelongestyarn.com) will be at the museum for 19 weeks.
Each scene, created with guidance from historians and retained by the project to be historically accurate, has been selected by the creator to depict the story of this momentous day in history. Each scene is unique and made with care.
Some scenes are dedicated to and depict actual WW2 Veterans who were in the Theatre of War in Normandy on June 6th.
The Longest Yarn film explores the construction of The Longest Yarn Tapestry (thelongestyarn.com) and what it represents: the events of D-Day June 6th, 1944 - with soldiers loading up in England and stuck there because of the storm, to the fierce battles on the landing beaches in Normandy, to the bombardment of the civilian population with towns and cities flattened by allied bombing. The combined battle casualties of the Invasion were 550,000, of those killed 4,000 were civilians. It was the greatest amphibious operation of all time. It has been drawing huge crowds in Europe since last year!
